Question Why can't I force stop whatsapp?

I want to force stop whatspp and continue using my phone in cellular data or wifi. I did restrict background data usage and pressed force stop. It still shows new messages in notification as soon as someone sends me a new message. I want to restrict only whatsapp from accessing internet without using any third party app. Any help in this regard is highly appreciated!

How does whatsapp override my manual settings? Every other app stops working when I do this, but not whatsapp why?

I feel like this is an intrusion into user choices and privacy.

Welcome to Android Central! Force stopping an app does not prevent it from reopening on its own. Since WhatsApp is a messaging app, it's not surprising that it would be coded to reopen on its own in order to stay connected and receive messages.

If you want to restrict it so much, is there a reason you actually have it installed?

Which phone do you have? Some phones might have built-in options to severely restrict an app's ability to function. Otherwise, you might have to look into a 3rd party app to do that.
