Why can't i open microsoft apps on my phone?

I'm using samsung j5 with an android version of 5.1.1. Before a recent software update i was able to open microsoft apps, including words, excel, one note and powerpoint. But due to the absence of wifi connection i wasnt able to use those apps to the fullest.

Now that i have connected to a wifi connection, i had recently updated my system. I started to use the microsoft apps, but i am only able to open one note. i cant seem to open Excel, words or powerpoint apps. I downloaded the office mobile app, it directed me to the google play store. There was a pop up that said microsoft words isnt compatible to this device.

I have searched through the net about this problem of mine but it was to no avail. I'm not sure how to handle this problem. Please help

You probably have an older version of Microsoft Office installed, such as this one.
