Why can't I silence the email notification

Droid Turbo. Unable to silence the incoming email notification. All settings are set to silent. In the last week or so it refuses to be silenced.

Welcome to Android Central! Open the Email app, tap Menu, then Settings, and go to each indvidual email account's settings. Look for the notification settings there--are any of them on? It's possible to have only certain apps, or even certain accounts within an app, generate notifications.
