Why can't I upgrade the OS?

[AC Question]

Cannot upgrade OS

Samsung Galaxy S4 bought second hand unlocked. I cannot upgrade Android version because I get a message "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available".

Is there any way I can reset the device to be able to get updates?
