Android Central Question

I have always been able to use mobile data while on a phone call but with my S9+ I occassionally receive messages saying I cannot use data while on a call. What's going on?

Welcome to Android Central.

Which carrier do you use? Is your phone one you purchased from your carrier or is it an unlocked device purchased elsewhere?

I use Verizon and ordered the phone through them.
Welcome to the forums. Do you have advanced calling turned on in the settings? Most phones nowadays only have one radio in them for calling and data. Generally it can only do one at a time unless you turn on advanced calling. Advanced calling transmits via the data signal like a VoIP service such as Skype, and is the same type of signal as all other mobile data. So if this is on, it shows you to both talk and surf at the same time. If it's off, the phone transits calls as a traditional signal and data access is blocked unless Wi-Fi is also available.
