Why can't I view or download attachments or pictures?

I cannot view or download attachments or pictures

I was having some email issues where contacts were duplicating, etc. The suggested resolution was to remove the account and re-add it. However now I can't download any attachments or pictures from email messages I receive.
When I try to download and view a document (word doc) that was sent to me, I click on download and get a blank screen with a black box having edit mode in the middle of it.
When I try to download a jpg file I click on preview and use the gallery application. All I get is a black screen with a greyed out picture icon in the middle with an exclamation mark.
I was able to download and view attachments and emails prior to re-creating the email account.
I am using a Hotmail account and my account is set up under Microsoft Active Synch.

Hey Paula had the same issues with Gmail and the installed app. The issue seems to be the email has not fully downloaded. My phone advises me with a msg whenever this occurs most of the time. Now I just select the msg, wait for 5 to 10 secs, or after the header and body of msg is done I tap on empty space in msg.

Will it download when connected to Wifi? If so, there will be something in settings to allow to download attachments only when on Wifi. Change that setting and it should work.

No it won't download over Wi-Fi either. I tried it. I checked the setting and I do not have the check box next to download over a Wi-Fi connection.
