Why can't my Moto G detect my SIM?

Moto g cannot detect SIM

My one year old Moto G has suddenly stopped detecting the SIM card. This happened without me opening the phone, so I cannot understand why it might have happened. It worked perfectly until now. Any thoughts? I cannot phone them for help without it!!

Happened to me a while back with my S3 - it was an issue with the sim card so it might be worth while asking your service provider to provide you with a new sim card. Or see if you have a spare one lying around that you could pop in and test?

You have Internet connectivity, so you can use hangouts to call them.

Have you removed and reinserted the SIM?
