Why can't my Moto X find my Moto 360?

My wife's brand new Moto X (2014) simply will not find the 360. Android Wear the app asks "Choose a device:" and... nothing.

Resetting the watch seems to have done the trick. Seems extreme.

Was the watch already paired with another phone? I think you have to reset the watch every time you switch devices.

Seems likely now. I thought unpairing it from the first phone would free it up for the new X. No go. Luckily, resetting an Android Wear device is a lot less tedious than resetting a phone!
