Why did a notification ring in quiet mode in my LG3?

Hi there.

I'm a recent convert from iphone to android. I had my LG3 on quiet mode, but a notification requesting a software update rang an alert this morning waking me up. Did I miss something in the settings? I don't like to turn my phone off or to silent while I sleep, in case of emergency. I have it set up for certain numbers to ring in silent mode. Am I out of luck on the notifications though?

I've tried quiet mode and it just doesn't work. Either Facebook notifications come through anyway, or the phone doesn't ring (after 3 rings from a caller on my list). I don't use it anymore. Instead I turn off sound on music & notifications and leave the ringer on low-ish. There's been a couple random instances where notifications came through though still.

Quiet mode is unfortunately useless if you do want certain callers to come through. For emergency callers, the phone will exhibit the behavior of your phone ringing with the exception of the ring (it will light up and show the caller panel). Unfortunately, it doesn't ring. I haven't experienced any sounds breaking though like you meantion - even those I want to come through. Pretty much useless IMO.

There's an app for that... Silence Premium Do Not Disturb. Silences phone on a schedule, if you wish, or for a fixed amount of time. Allows a group of Google contacts you set up as exceptions, or no exceptions.
