Gingerbread is a huge let down, why was I excited over getting this update? My biggest deal with it is, 3g just drops all the time, and goes to 1x and no bars, then it comes back, opps...its gone again.

When is this so called update coming? I read about an update coming this month, middle of the month. Is this true? Does anyone know for sure?

I am so swearing to sbf back to froyo, I not to tech savy, everytime I sbf'd I gotta start all new again, download apps I like, set up the phone the way I like, AGAIN, and Im just not sure yet I wanna go through that but the musical signal switch is pretty damn annoying.

no worries, I was excited last summer as well with this phone. Nice hardware, but the Moto software engineers are just not trained enough to put out viable software or they dont care... I cant believe I am looking forward to the Iphone 5 release date so I can at least look at it as I am able t get an upgrade now.

So for now I will deal with numerous battery pulls daily, and when I get my new phone I plan on taking this one out to the skeet range.

I like the phone, think its a good quality built phone but the current software sucks. I think Motorola done a good job with the phone.

Software drives a phone. Nice hardware but this phone is a failure. I am really surprised they are keeping the DROID name with the newer phones. No way on he'll would I buy one right now unless a drastic change is made.

I will start off by saying that I have had no issues with the Gingerbread update. I got my Droid X in December, and I've had the Motorola Gingerbread ("Gingerblur") since May. I have seen better battery life and performance with Gingerblur than I did with Froyo, so in that sense, I'm happy with the update.

But I will agree with previous posts that Motorola is ruining good hardware with terrible software. The software development team probably doesn't know what they're doing, at least not like a lot of the 3rd party ROM makers out there.

To df79transam, have you ever considered installing a custom ROM? I know you said that you are not very tech-savvy, but there are lots of guides out there that walk you step-by-step how to install the ROM. I ran the Liberty ROM at one point and really liked it, and was actually considering installing a Cyanogenmod build to try it out. I'll post a link to the Cyanogenmod page that walks you through the whole process if you are interested.

This update/fix has been rumored since the update hit in early June 2011. There have been no CONFIRMATIONS from VZW or Moto - don't believe anything else about it. We have to either hope that this fix is in the works, or bite our tongue and assume it will never arrive.

I would look for alternatives if you can.

If you head over to the Motorola Owners Forum, look in the DX threads and you will see over 80 documented issues with the GB update. Sorry to tell you this!

Looks like CyanogenMod for DX is still very Beta...am I wrong but I couldnt find a stable version.

i have been running CM nightlies for the past 6 weeks, and i have run into no problems at all. i actually probably had more bugs popping up on the stock GB than on CM7, to be honest

I sbf'd back to the stock froyo the other night. I haven't been having any problems other than the damn pop up coming up seems like every 5 mins telling me there's a WONDERFUL UPDATE AVAILABLE.
