Why did my Galaxy SIII Mini stop downloading mail?

Galaxy SIII Mini stopped downloading mail

Last Thursday, for no apparent reason, my phone stopped downloading mail. (I only have one email address that I use the phone for.) I have tried several different Wi-Fi connections as well as the mobile network, but it makes no difference. The phone also sends mail without any problems, and I can use the browser.

I have tried restarting, rebooting, re-entering the password, and clearing out the trash file. Also, I can retrieve the mail on my computer without difficulty, so the problem is not with the mail service.

I am using the standard mail app that came with the phone, and manually refreshing the mailbox doesn't help, either.

Any suggestions?

See if you accidentally turned off "Master Sync" up in the notifications shade? It's the one that looks like two circular arrows chasing each other and says Sync underneath. Note that many "battery saver" apps turn this off without letting you know what it does, so it's likely not something you did directly.

Master sync was on. I tried turning it off and then on, then restarted the phone. That didn't help, either.

I ended up deleting the email account from the phone and adding it back. I don't know what the problem was, but it's working now.
