Why do I constantly receive duplicates in Messaging?

This has been happening for a while but I would constantly receive duplicate's every minute or so of messages that I already received from people in Messaging. I recently got a new phone and it's doing that now as well. The old phone was a LG Optimus Elite (Virgin Mobile) and my new one is called ALCATEL ONETOUCH ELEVATE (Virgin Mobile). How do I make sure these constant duplicates STOP?

I'm assuming you're on Virgin Mobile? I used to have that issue on T-Mobile, and I'm afraid that's a carrier issue. Might be related to your account and/or SIM card, but at least rest assured it's not your phone. The sad part is it's up to your carrier to fix it, and isn't always a pretty prospect.

On T-Mo I still get duplicates every once in a while (or my contacts get duplicates from me) even after reporting and them acknowledging it's a network issue.

I don't really see it being a network issue since it send me duplicates constantly regardless if im at school, on the bus or at home.

Also my older brother has virgin mobile as well and he's never had this problem with any phone.

That's why it would be a network issue. Remember that SMS/MMS is handled by your carrier. The case of your brother isn't having the issue might be that the problem lies with some configuration from the carrier linked to your number or SIM Card. I've seen reports (again, most of them T-Mobile's, where they would change their SIM cards for a new one and the problem would be solved).

In my case, when it started (and thinking it might be the phone), I tried the SIM card on a G4 and within two days I started having the issue again. Switched back to the Note 4, still had the issue. Reported to T-Mo (like 5 times) and one day it just went away. I'm using a Note 5 now and problem is gone (almost...I do get a duplicate or two every once in a while).

Also, are you using any 3rd party SMS apps or 'relay' services like MightyText? I've also heard issues with duplicates since MightyText uses some server configurations that might cause it (in which case forcing the carrier-specific settings instead of leaving it on AutoDetection mode should clear the issue).
