Why do I have grey bars on my Nexus 7 screen?

Grey bars on the nexus 7 screen

My nexus 7 suddenly only displays grey and black bars. It still responds as I can unlock it if I guess where the unlock pattern is and when I move between screens I can tell that the bars are moving and responding. I'm just not sure whether a screen replacement will fix this or whether its time to get a new device. Thanks

Welcome to the forums. I would guess a screen replacement would fix it. However, the best thing to do is see if there is a repair ship around that can look at it for you. If there are no dedicated phone/tablet places, see if a computer place will do it. Reason behind this suggestion is, they can also test the boards to see if they are damaged.
