When I try to enter security key it keeps saying "incorrect password"
I'm entering the key from bottom of router, same one my laptops (3) and Nooks (2) display in "properties" and work fine with.
I was not using the Tab 2 for a couple months and got a new router recently.
After charging the Tab up, I tried to connect to new router, but keep getting "incorrect password" error.
I did a factory reset and still get same message. I transferred some pics via Bluetooth to a laptop before the reset and paired with the same laptop after reset with no problem.

It might actually be a problem with the router (yes, the tablet has some blame, but the router might be the issue). Some Samsung devices don't play nice with some routers, and the router might need a firmware update to correct this.

Does your router support the WPS button? If so, try using that instead of the password.

Yes, router has WPS, how do I make the tablet use that instead? I tried pushing the WPS button then hitting connect on the wifi setting before factory reboot.
I have cleared cache since first post also

thanks for the help

On the WiFi Settings (where all your networks are listed), if you hit the Menu button the WPS PUSH BUTTON option should appear if your device supports it (don't know why some remove it from their ROMs). You might have to 'forget' the network first if you've already added it.

when it shows the networks available it shows "WPS available" below the router, but I don't see a menu or wps option

ok, found a dropdown menu that had wps push button, that didn't work either
also has wps pin entry that tells me to enter a PIN into my router, but I ain't smart enough to figure how to do that either

in "advanced" it has a MAC address, but under IP address it says "unavailable"

on samsung's site there seems to be an update maybe I need to try that

Try updating, but most of the time, it's the router that might need to be updated...
The WPS PIN is not on the router, you need to set it up in the router's configuration page (which address or how to access that depends on your router).

AAANNNNDDDDD........ doing what Arris says to do, I can't even get into the router. even hooked up an Ethernet cable and entered the address they gave into browser, all it does is say "page can't be displayed"

I give up, everything else works fine (3 laptops, 3 nooks, a netbook that is so old that MS doesn't even support it's operating system anymore, another tablet [can't remember brand right now] and an Iphone) damn shame, it's a nice tablet otherwise :'(

:( So weird that you can't access the router page, though... You might want to check that, too. It's nice to have access to it for those times you want to change channels if you live in a 'crowded' area or to see if someone is leeching off your WiFi.

I ended up figuring out how to get into the router, entered the PIN the Tab said to use. when that didn't work, I set the security to "open" and Tab still gave "authentication error"
it has to be problem in the Tab
it worked fine a couple months ago on the old router, all devices that worked on old router (even the above mentioned out of support netbook) only needed new password and they all work fine. such a waste

Again, thanks for all the help

ETA: I even plugged the Tab usb cable into the usb port on router, but could not figure out how to do anything that way

I guess now I try to use some other OS?
I have no idea what is meant by rooting or jailbreaking or any of that stuff
I was able to do a cyogen(?) mod to an early nook (and it works fine with the new router)

You can't use Ethernet over USB on the Tab, unfortunately. And yes, it's a Samsung issue with certain routers (known), but most routers 'fix' this by updating the firmware ON THE ROUTER. Some Samsung devices have issues with public WiFi routers as well, and while it's been improving with newer devices, it's still an issue sometimes. That being said, I did have an Arris cable modem once and all my devices worked without issues. I even used WPS on the Tab S on my last visit to my parents.

I just got the router from my internet provider (Comcast) a couple months ago (thanksgiving weekend)
any tips on how to update the router? I don't know if the problem is the wifi on the Tab because it is finding and identifying the router. but I'm also concerned that if I root it then it still may not work.
the 2 new nook galaxy tab 4 7s that were family Christmas presents work fine, but I'm betting that has to do with the newer software on them

again, I really can't tell you how much help you've been, thank you

From my experience, rooting the device seldom helps (there are ROMs that claim to alleviate WiFi/Bluetooth issues but I'm afraid the problem is more hardware related than software). As far as updating the router, you'd have to check with either your ISP or the manufacturer of the router to see if there's a firmware update available.

Also, since this is a new device, you might be able to send it in under warranty, as sometimes the issue presented itself with a few units and not all tablets.
