Why do micro SD cards keep breaking?

My GF has a Note 3 and has used 2 64GB micro SD cards, both of which broke. Is this a common problem or is there something she did or did not do to cause this?

Placed wrong, or backwards, or frequently dropping the phone and playing with the SD card may cause breaking.
