Why do we want Gingerbread?

I see so many threads complaining that the update to Gingerbread it taking longer than hoped, and other threads saying that folks should just root and get GB that way.

What's so great about GB? I read the thread over on the DInc2 board detailing the upgrades in GB; it all seems pretty boring and minor. What's the big deal?

95% of people don't know why they want something. They just want it because it's new.

Same goes for GB.

It's ridiculous.

My buddy has a DInc 2 and the GB update actually brought on a few minor bugs...But people still want it. Go figure.

89% of statistics are made up on the spot.

Aside, Gingerbread is insanely better at resource management, thus improving performance of the phone. It kills applications that use too much background resources. That is the main reason I want it.

Gingerbread itself is better. Throw on the 3rd party UI and all the other clutter and it really isn't all that different. I'd much rather have Sense 3.0 than Gingerbread. Both together run amazingly awesome on the Thunderbolt though but you won't see that from Verizon/HTC.

When I went to gb the biggest difference was how much smoother it ran over froyo, it feels and looks nice while scrolling through home screens and just everything else in general.

Meh. I've tried various leaked GB ROMs and AOSP. The only thing I like about GB is a few minor visual things and that netflix works. In fact the only reason I'm running AOSP 2.3.4 is for netflix.

I've not really noticed much performance increase on sense GB. And AOSP is slighty snappier just because it's a much simplier ROM.

Here are 2 links why you would want Gingerbread (like what I'm rocking right now with CM7)

Linky 1

Linky 2

And oh, you're welcome. :D

Basiclly what DroidEvo8 was kind enough to link to says in Lay terms, unoticed visuals for the most part when running HTC sense, which if its stock OTA updated GB then, your major gains from it will be from the app developer community which will make use of the Operating Systems resources to give you better apps. Which will drain your battery faster an make you complain even more. Either way it will be a Win/Win Lose/Lose your phone is sweet now, it will be sweet after but its not worth a testicle or your first born child either.

I have a friend with the nexus 1 and ever since they pushed GB to his phone he has had testing issues. Stuff like the text not showing although it will still send or after hitting send it will kick him out of app and he will have to type it.

the same reason you upgraded from Window ME to XP

I don't want it. I've yet to read a single.concrete undisputed reason I should. Vague commendations like it runs better don't mean much. Mr2 runs fine. Better for developers? It actually takes some control AWAY from developers. (like control of let's)

Forget Gingerbread. I want Ice Cream or what's after that Jellybean, Jelly Donut? yeah, I'll take that.

As others have said, it does manage resources better. I know that's not sexy, but if performance matters to you then it's nice. For me the biggest benefit is it will allow access to Netflix and Skype.

My biggest reason is the rumored better battery life.
