why do you choose android?

Personally I find all the customization just the cream of the crop. I just liked how Android worked, looked, and everything else. iOS and iPhones never called.

You should note that Apple has 4s thru 5s to update, right? That is 3 phones. All variants of them have the same software and hardware. i.e. no difference between 4s models or 5 models. That is a pretty easy group to update. These would be compared to "google edition" android devices, which get the update quickly, faster than any other device like you request. There are a small group of "google edition" devices that get the quick update advantage.
Now. Consider that many different manufacturers use Android software, then add/change things to suit their phone. These are not raw software from google, therefore a quick update is not possible due to the extra testing and formatting needed. This encompasses hundreds of different phones from different manufacturers. This is why they take time to update.

So. Do android devices such as "google editions" (3+ phones on the market now) get instant updates? YES
Do ios devices such as the 4s-5s (3 phones on the market) get instant updates? YES

Conclusion: Just as many (or more) android devices get quick updates once they are released from google compared to ios. Because of the vast selection and variety of software on different manufacturer devices using android, it takes more time for those devices to get the update.
Im not hating on Android, Im just saying its stupid for a company to not push the latest update at the same time. Google should say, "you want to use our OS then the update goes to everyone on launch day"

How? How does that even work in your mind? With all the different skins/ROMS out there from all the different manufactures, not to mention all the many many different hardware configurations that all would have to be tested what you are asking isn't even possible. A Samsung Android with an S-Pen and all it's extra camera software, and interface software, is not the same as an HTC One with Zoes or a Moto X with extra custom chips for listening to you. Also, it's a LOT different to be the company designing not only all the hardware, but all of the software too. Google is not in that position. Many companies are making hardware. Many companies are cutomizing the OS. it's not just one company controling everything. And that makes a world of difference.

To me iOS is still the better system, for the following reasons: I know when an update is available everyone will get it and there is no hoping it comes around. The screen is great in the sun light and at night. The camera is one of the best around. The sms is fantastic, and iTunes is great. But I left them because I needed a bigger screen, im waiting for my LG G2 to arrive and I will hopefully have a good experience. Samsung left a foul taste in my mouth.

I often ask iPhone users why they like iOS and it's always some bs line about retina display and the apps but they are just fan boys that brought it because it's apple. This was simple and well put, I don't know if I'd go as far to say ios is better tho

This is exactly why iOS is better because there aren't a ton of devices flooding the market making it difficult to update them all in a timely manner or at all.

One of the main reasons I use Android is (indirectly) because they don't do that. The reason we have so many hardware and software choices with Android is because it's open source. If Google took that away we'd lose a lot of what makes the Android platform great.

One of the main reasons I use Android is Tasker. If something about my phone isn't working the way I want it to there's a good chance that I can make it work in Tasker. You can get some of the most basic functionality in iOS (though I think it might require jailbreaking), but my understanding is that you don't have anywhere near the power with the iOS alternatives that you do with Tasker. Being able to make custom widgets that show whatever information you want based on whatever context you want is something I can't give up. Being able to add custom voice commands, have custom inter device communication, make custom notifications and have access to lots of great custom location services all mean I can customize how my phone works at a level that's just not possible with iOS.

What is it about android that speaks to you as opposed to, say, iOS or windows phone? Is it rooting? Customization? Keyboards? Widgets?

Choice. I have no interest in locking myself into an ecosystem where I am limited to the few hardware options provided by one company.

I know for me personally I like the keyboard options and audio playback widgets. And I like the way apps can interact with each other.

But since I don't root, ROM, or flash, I wonder if I'm getting the most out of my experience with android and might be better served somewhere else.

Honestly its choices, choices, choices! Whether its an HTC, LG or samsung. You cab expect most of the same experience. So once you're used to android all other android phones become nature to you. And the screen sizes! Whether you want a phablet or a smaller screen Its there.

Because i can't stand apple. Not the people in my area who love them, not the cartoony UI. Every time i look at a mac laptop and see those icons bouncing, ugh. lol. I like windows computers but i don't appreciate how much control they keep over their stuff. And android has more handpiece options, most of which i do not like, thank goodness for the moto x.

So because you won't get a software update immediately makes that device/software inferior to everything else? I think not.
People get way too bent on the idea that they have to have the new software update.
I am sorry, but Android 4.1 is really good and is still better than ios7, so there is no rush to update at all. (4.2,3,4 etc)
(I would probably have your opinion if I were on Apple, feeling the "need" to have an update because the os is so far behind)

sorry for off topic discussion

No, what I am addressing is the fact that android is like a jack of all trades but a master of none....

Personally, I don't have a problem with Apple products. I loved my iPhone e when I had it and I liked the mac from what I played around with at stores.

I think I went with android because I wanted to try something new. Now that I have, I think I'm probably going back to iPhone. Just because there's a few niggles I have had with android that I don't think occurred while using iOS. Stuttering and unresponsive needs being one. Also battery life issues and app crashes.

App crashes? You never had apps crash on IOS? Wow, I have had far more app issues with Apple then Android. Not that apps don't crash there too, because they do. But my expereince has been far worse on iOS. Especially after updating which always seems to break things horribly. So I am sticking with Android.

Yay! I can answer something! I know that I know the correct answer lol.
I did a lot of research and found that Apple wasn't the only OS. Was annoyed that Apple designed their devises so its hard to save and transfer stuff between OS's' very exclusive. Windows seemed only limited by its number of apps. So I chose an android phone and love it! Then recently got the same in a tablet. Have no problem having the same info across both my devies and my windows laptop, just cable transfer, WiFi, Bluetooth or use the right apps & sync.
I'm not saying all my info deductions were correct, but these are the reasons I choose android :D

Number one reason is that it uses the Linux kernel, secondly it's 'for the most part' an open source, as in AOSP (minus the Google apps). This allow me with ability to modify the software and make lots of customization freely. It also give me a better sense of security and allow me more control on that area than other mobile OS out there (despite what some people think is contrary).

I switched because it's cheap, customizable, feature packed, and does what I need. I have an LG Optimus F3 and the talk time is better than the iPhone 5S and it's 4G LTE and more. My phone cost $195 with tax, no contract and is $65 a month with tax and phone insurance. I think that I can use Second Life with graphics on my Android though it's not available for the iPhone. I am involved with the National Source Society in SL. Android offers me more bang for my buck just like AMD.

Why do i choose android or why did i choose android?
As for why did i choose android its because of the hype.I bought my first android phone which i am still using almost two years ago because of hype.Everybody was going crazy about Android and i wanted to join the in and see what the fuss was all about. Can't say its been a bad experience but the lag is very annoying. As for why do i choose android i actually don't as my next phone will be a WP8 device.

Customization, I change my launcher every month. Cool widgets, choice of keyboards, the variety of phones to choose from. Mini usb charger for all phones. The list could go on and on. If you don't like change and want a simple phone go with Apple. I like to be able to change the look and feel of my phone.
