Why does Android auto still fail?

Back to Android a year later with pixel my Honda Civic 2016 doesn't pick up my Android auto unless I restart and sometimes their is no sound. Am I doing something wrong

Either BT or connect via USB, yes.

It won't let me connect unless both are happening

It needs both. There is also a setting in Android Auto to auto turn on BT for you.
