Why does my Back button on my Samsung Galaxy S4 not work? and how can I fix it?

My S4 recently was updated and the back button suddenly stopped working
the button does light up of i press the other button

Welcome to Android Central! I've seen complaints about this elsewhere on the forums. Does it help if you wipe the cache partition? http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744

In the meantime, a temporary workaround would be install Handy Soft Keys.

The cache partition does not work
and i already have an alternative for handy soft keys
but do you have anything else?

You could try reinstalling the firmware, using either Samsung Kies or Smart Switch (I'm never sure which one is the right one for the S4).

It is highly likely you have hardware damage since your back button doesn't work.

You could try reflashing the firmware via Odin. Guide can be found here.
