My device repeatedly wakes up and then falls back asleep over and over without being touched

yesterday my Galaxy S4 started to light up and then fall back asleep without me touching the device. It cycles on and off every 10-20 seconds and wont stop. The backlight turning on and off is a tremendous drain on the battery.

I have tried changing settings on the display but nothing seems to work. My android system is updated. I have turned off multiple times and have pulled the battery twice. Again, nothing stops the device from lighting up and then lighting down.

If that doesn't help, then try booting into Safe Mode, which should help determine if it's due to a 3rd party app vs a system app. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11724
