Why does my Galaxy S3 screen stay black?

[AC Question]

Galaxy S3 screen stays black.

The LED charging and notification lights are working. volume and power buttons are working. prior the screen staying black the touchscreen was fine.
How can this be remedied?

Welcome to Android Central! If the screen never comes on, even when booting up, then it probably failed. You'd need to bring it to a repair shop for replacement.
