Galaxy S4 restarts when trying to wake from sleep mode
(sorry for the duplicate post, I posted the original while not logged in)
My Galaxy S4 has been restarting at random times, but most frequently when it tries to wake up from sleep mode.
Typical Scenario:
My phone will go to sleep after inactivity, and upon trying to wake it up by pressing any button, nothing happens. Rarely, it will flash the screen or wake up from sleep mode about 10-15 seconds later, even rarer it will let me put in my passcode and begin using my phone. Sometimes, if I wake it up fast enough after going to sleep, it will wake up just fine. If it doesn't wake up after 15 seconds, usually it just restarts on its own, but if it doesn't restart on its own then I have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds (which seems to force a restart) or take the battery out.
Then, when I turn on the phone, I have to make sure I put in my passcode before it goes to sleep or else it will lock back up and/or restart again.
I've tried factory reset and cache clear, and that didn't seem to help at all. Running Lollipop (5.1 i think) on AT&T. Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem. I've tried taking out the SD Card and SIM card as well, and although it seemed like it fixed the problem initially, it does still happen with one or both of those removed.
Any clues? Is there any other software I can replace that's not touched during factory reset?
edit: i've turned on CPU debugging and notice that "android irq/343-max7769" seems to take up a ton of the CPU whenever my phone lags when trying to perform an action and I'm met with heavy lag/stalling. Upon turning on my phone again, it wakes for a brief second and i see that process hogging a ton of CPU and then it freezes/restarts. Guessing there's something wrong with the kernel? Do i need to do a full re-install of Lollipop, or will rooting help at all?
