AC Question

My new Galaxy S8 will not allow me to use data (search the internet or use apps) while talking on the phone. After calling samsung, I was told that the phone does not allow data while talking??? The Verizon representitive who was on the same call confirmed that this was not a problem caused by Verizon. The Samsung representatives were absolutely no help. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Welcome.
That is a good question.
We'll move this to the S8 forums to find out.

Mav.

the old note 3 phones had 2 radios which allowed you to use data and voice at the same time . with one radio, that ability will be based on the carrier and how it handles voice and data.

Is your phone a Verizon branded phone, unlocked phone from another carrier or Samsung unlocked phone?

That sounds about right. On my S8+ (on Rogers), I frequently drive with Google maps going while on a phone call. No issues, ever.

Sprint is the only network that doesn't allow data and phone usage, sorry no help with your problem

Well since the OP said he's on Verizon if he turns on VoLTE (Verizon calls it Advanced Calling) it won't be an issue. Example attached below as I'm on a call while I type this.

@ OP - ensure Advanced Calling is on via your account. After that go to settings > Advanced Calling on your phone and turn on the setting.

This goes back to that old mantra: CDMA usually doesn't allow data at the same time on a call (with the recent exception of VoLTE) and GSM will allow data and voice simultaneously (as in the Rogers case above). This is one reason I switched back to GSM even the CDMA will give you better penetration into buildings.

Verizon does do simultaneous data and phone call but I think u have to be in lte coverage for something.
