Why does my media volume turn down

I am using a pixel 2 xl, and the media volume keeps turning down by itself when using wired ear buds and after abput 20 mins of usage on google play music. The ear buds have no volume control on them.

Do the earbuds have any other kind of feature (like a mic or a pause/play button), or are they purely stereo earbuds? If they have any other function besides playing stereo sound, sometimes the contact ring used for that function can give false commands if the ring isn't lined up correctly. This is most often seen with headphones that are specifically "Made for iPhone."

Does the same thing happen with other headphones? If not, compare the plugs for both headphones side by side -- are the contact rings in the exact same position?
