Moto G 2nd Gen with Lolipop shows very large data xfers at 6 and 12

I just moved three phones to Consumer Cellular and bought new Moto G 2nd Generation phone. All upgraded to Lolipop withing a couple of days of being activated. One of the three uses lots of network data (vs. wifi) at 6am, 12am, 6pm and 12pm). The amount of data is near 100MB at each of the times and it is killing our joint data plan. The other two phone use the data network also at the same intervals but the transfer is usually a couple of hundred kbytes - like a handshake took place but no transfer. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to stop it on the phone with large usage? Thanks

It sounds like some app is syncing and uploading a lot of data. Check the settings in apps like Google + or any photo gallery. Make sure in your apps that uploading or updating only happens while on WiFi (Play Store included).
