Why does my Note 8 always on screen turn off even though it's turned on in the setting?

I've heard that even the S 7 had this problem. It's not normally that big of a deal but we usually like to have phones working perfectly. Can You help? Sometimes it stays on all night and other nights it turns off. Could it be a sensor?
