why does my phone goes blank while making and receiving a call

my lg g3 phone goes blank when making or receiving a call and I'm not even able to hang up unless the caller does.

You should be able to press power to wake the device and hangup. The screen is probably timing out and locking.

hmm that's odd behaviour, my case i have to say hello twice and only the second time will the caller be able to listen to me.

Check your case strap isn't activating the proximity detector!
