Why does my phone turn on and off by itself?

i got a droid razr 912xt from my mom, it was her old phone. she got a new one when this one kept turning itself on and off bu itself. ive had it for about 2 1/2 months with no problems, but 2 days ago its been turning itself on and off. i factory rest the phone, then i cleared the cache memory, i also allowed battery to drian and charged it. sometimes it works normally for about an hour, but then it decides to go back to turning on and off, and i have no clue what to do as im not a huge technology smart person

Welcome to Android Central! Is it shutting completely off by itself? When it turns back on, does it have to go through the entire boot process again?

If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, then something you installed is causing the problem. You may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem disappears. If the problem persists in Safe Mode, then it's more likely to be a hardware or firmware problem.
