why does phone wake up when a text is received on lollipop software?

I recently switched from sprint(note 4) to t-mobile(note 4) and ive noticed that since I've had t mobile whenever i receive a text message, when i am not using my phone and it is locked, it vibrates/sound, the blue led began to blink, and the screen automatically will light up as if i hit the side key/home button. where before when i had the note 4 on the sprint network, whenever i received a text message, when i am not using my phone and it is locked, it would vibrate/sound, and the blue led began to blink but the screen would remain dark until i would wake it up manually by hitting a side key or the home button.

I have called the technical support dept. at Samsung corporate and t-mobile and no one knows how to fix the issue. it has become a pretty big annoyance over the past 24 hours.

Has anyone found a solution to this?

If they can't figure out how to fix it, and the phone is still under warranty (it should be), ask that it be replaced.
