Why does my S3 keep shutting off after the start screen?

S3 keeps shutting off after start screen

I was using my S3's GPS the other day and it shut off half way into my trip (about 15-20 mins). Now I can only turn it on and use it fully when it is plugged in. As soon as I unplug it, it will turn off. But sometimes it will stay on until I touch the screen. And it was a pretty hot day as well, if that helps with anything. I'm not sure if it is the battery or the OS. The phone has shut off like this before, when I was in Hawaii, but I was able to turn it back on. Please help.

It sounds like you need a new battery.
