Why does my Samsung Galaxy S4 have an unresponsive screen?

Samsung Galaxy S4 unresponsive screen

I recently got a new phone and sometimes when I go to unlock it the screen has become unresponsive. At first I thought it was a glitch in the system but its been happening more and more recently. What can/should I do about it?

Welcome to Android Central! Is the phone brand new or used/refurbished? See if it persists in Safe Mode, which disables all 3rd party apps. If it does persist, then it's probably a defect--ask for an exchange. Safe Mode steps are here: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744
