Why does only one side of call drops?

[Android Central Question]

I was on call with a family member, usually we sit in silence but make a noise now and then when there is nothing to talk about and after awhile I got messages on social app that they weren't able to call me. My phone was still on call with them but apparently their end dropped and wasn't able to call me back or text me until they sent message through social site. Is there a fault on my end or their's that the phones disconnected but only on their end?

Welcome to Android Central! Hard to say, but it was probably a network problem, and the call dropped on their end, but for some reason your phone continued on the call thinking they were still on. That kind of thing has happened to me before, but it's pretty rare.
