Why does the lockscreen wallpaper appear very dark?

I have the display light set to half way. On the homescreens the brightness is ok, however ive noticed my lockscreen wallpaper looks quite dark in comparison. I think this is due to the lockscreen/notification view covering the view maybe, not sure.

Has anyone else noticed this?
