When looking to get a spare battery for mine I know it said somewhere that they are not and the Verizon one is specifically for Verizon not gsm. Still not sure why

Pretty sure they can be swapped. The part numbers inside the links are the same. They only go to the L on both.

They are the same. I bought the spare battery and charger from Samsung and that battery also has a different part number than my original. If they were not interchangeable then they would have to sell a spare battery/charger kit for each carrier, which they don't.
