Why does this Google app keep reinstalling after I uninstall?

Hi to those who were so helpful, Thanks SO much...

Last night before I saw the directions to go into the Google app and toggle off Instant Apps I looked for it in BK Disabler, it was not in the list of system or bloatware in BK but when I used the search function in BK it came right up. I disabled it and haven't seen it since. It doesn't even show up in the list under Google.

To those who asked why do I care if its on my phone....I try my best to totally eliminate unwanted privacy invading situations and forced items upon me and my property. I know...I know, I'm facing an uphill battle but at least I'm not taking techs BS laying down.

And to the person that asked if you need Instant Apps....No you don't. And another 127 things I have disabled and the Note 8 runs fine.

I'm with you. cannot believe all the unnecessary items that come preloaded. seriously considering an unlocked version next time around just to avoid as much of the junk and privacy invading as possible.

Hi Toenail,

So mine is a Samsung factory unlocked US version and although it has no carrier bloatware it is still LOADED with countless other useless Samsung crap. I tried the AT&T version and a lot of the AT&T bloat could either be disabled or removed but the fact that AT&T had a bunch of bookmarks in the Samsung browser that I could NOT delete at all sent me over the edge so I returned it and kept the lesser of two evils.

The best Android I've seen in regards to zero bloat is the Essential phone. Unfortunately their customer service is anything but. Coupled with the worst "flagship" camera on a phone and that was a definite DO NOT PURCHASE.

I think we need a thread somewhere here on the AC forums, with a list of all things that can be safely disabled without affecting the basic operation of the phone. I have a bunch of stuff disabled but nowhere near 127. I'm just afraid of disabling something that might brick or severely affect my phone, so I always err on the side of caution.

Good idea bud. Go start one:D

Yea, I found the setting (thank you for the pictorial) and made certain it was off. I still don't get what the uproar is over it, but thank you for the education.

Nah you are safe with disablers. If you see something acting weird after you disabled things just delete BK disabler app and start over. You won't brick your phone. Rooting on the other hand is tricky. I suggest deleting all "Bloatware" apps listed in BK, then there are a bunch of "System" apps you can delete which I would do maybe 5 a day and write them down so if something acts weird after those 5 were deleted you can go back and reinstate those last 5 you disabled.

The uproar is over having something totally unnecessary forced upon us repeatedly even though this particular app offers an "UNINSTALL" button. We don't need, didn't ask for, didn't download and don't want the Google Play Services Instant App.

It isn't unnecessary. It's required for instant apps to work. If you don't want it, Google gives you the option to turn it off and uninstall the app. Had you googled 'Google Instant Apps' it would have taken you immediately to the product page so you could find out how to disable the feature, and also explained what instant apps are.

Yea, that whole Google help link posted on page one is full of outrage, I don't get it, you just turn it off. Maybe it isn't as easy on older phones. Then again, I didn't think it was for older phones.

Hi,
As I stated earlier. There was no option for me to turn it off.

Excuse me, but Google Play Services is an essential part of the operating system. You can't permanently remove it.

See the writeup here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms&hl=en

Also https://www.androidpit.com/google-play-services-what-is-it-and-what-is-it-for
Yeah, we're not discussing Google Play Services but Google Play Services for Instant Apps. If you had read the thread, that would have been evident. Also, the first post shows a screenshot that clearly shows "Google Play Services for Ins..." because it was cut off, the entire app name isn't shown.

Still seems odd.. But oh well

I get it. But, no matter how you slice it, Google Play Services (Instant Apps or not) are so baked into the OS that I would not risk removing it.

And, besides, to what end? To save a few MB of ram? A few CPU cycles?

That's the great thing about it! YOU don't have to risk disabling it if I you don't want to. The OP and many others, myself included, don't want a bunch of stuff running on our phones that aren't absolutely necessary for the operation of the phone. I've disabled the aforementioned app and all 69 services that were running and I can still get updates for all my apps in the Play Store and my phone works fine. Soooo, tell me why I "need" the app and it's 69 services running.

If you want instant apps you need it. But you're conflating needing it with it somehow negatively affecting the experience, which it doesn't. You don't need it, but it doesn't do anything bad to your device if you have it.

Then you weren't looking in the right place. It's been there since instant apps have been available.

I may not have been. It has been a confusing run thus far. What matters most now is that it is disabled and not showing up anywhere.

What I can say is that this old man is getting tired of tech, privacy issues, defective devices, bad cell reception, crappy speeds, connection issues, bug fix updates on top of bug fix updates......and more. It just gets OLD after a while if you know what I mean. Up until quite recently I loved new tech and toys but the industry is imploding upon itself fast.
