why doesn't Google make a Chrome mobile browser for the GN?(or any other Android
phone for that matter)

While the web browser doesn't say Google Chrome that is pretty much what it is, even has the Incognito tab.

The last I heard, the Chrome team and the Android team were not seeing eye to eye. They are not working together and had no plans to do so.

Was this recent? I remember back in October that a lot of news sites were reporting Google was talking about bringing it over... though a lot can change in that amount of time

I remember reading the exact same thing last year or early this year.
I think it was on Mashable, not sure.

I'm pretty sure I read that the browser on ICS was built from the Chrome code base but I don't have a source to site.
