Why don't they beta test updates?

Seems like most if not all these OTA update glitches in the ThunderBolt would have been caught early if they were beta tested before their release.
Am I missing somethung?

What you are missing is two things. One, they do beta test. Two, you are assuming that a beta tester reported bug would be enough justification to delay a release. It isn't.
