Why even bother launching?

So I went into my local AT&T store today, to pick up a GS2 and they don't even have any in stock...They didn't even have a display model. The guy said he wont be getting any in for at least a week or two. And this is a flagship store. Whats the point of launching a phone if your not gonna have any on hand. I think Best buy only got 5. I wonder if Walmart got any??? I think Samsung blew it on this one.

Well where do you live? A major city or Jackson Hole Wyoming?

Re: Why even bother launching????

Uh .. I live in a suburb of Detroit which is not high on anyones list for stocking merchandise. Yet every single BB around me (8 of them within 15 miles) has them in stock.

These things are abundantly available, because YOUR store doesn't have any, does not mean it was bungled in any way.

Re: Why even bother launching????

I agree with the OP. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they launched this phone. You would have thought with 10 million sold worldwide already, they'd know it would be super popular, however in Charlotte, NC (Not a jackson hole), the only store I found that had them in stock was a corporate AT&T store. They only had 3 left, so I had to call ahead and have the lady hold one for me. All the authorized resellers were telling me they haven't even received shipments yet.

I'm guessing they are prepping for iPhone frenzy that'll likely start tomorrow, but by doing so, I think they missed a lot of potential sales.

Re: Why even bother launching????

Some people are saying AT&T Corp Store isn't carrying any/limited because of a lawsuit.. wonder is that true.. Best Buy had them but few, sold out quickly.

My local AT&T store was sold out but I was able to get one at Best Buy.

This seems unlikely to me...but I'm definitely not a lawyer.
They just announced that it would be available Oct. 2nd like a week or two ago - if there was a lawsuit pending, I doubt they would have released it at all.

And if it's the Samsung/Apple lawsuit fight going back and forth, I think thats more geared toward the international version as it more closely resembles an iPhone. Not completely sure though.

Call around to ATT stores. I stopped into a store today to get a screen protector and they told me they had plenty of SGSII's in stock. They were surprised that they were not busy at all yesterday.

BTW....Jackson Hole is an actually city in wyoming, not a derogatory name for some ho-dunk town. Now the poster who's from a suburb of the armpit of America, THAT'S derogatory.

Re: Why even bother launching????

We have three AT&T stores, three regular Wal-Marts, one of the new specialized Wal-Mart phone stores and one Best Buy in the immediate area, and all of them had plenty in inventory. I was only slightly worried when I had to return my defective GSII and the rep who greeted me wasn't sure about what was left. I knew that an hour ago when I bought the phone, there were four more in the back.

But you would think that a smaller urban area like this one would have received fewer units so that more could be sold in the higher-demand areas.

Much like the OP you must be very lazy at looking. Checking BB Mobile and 9 of 10 BB's int he Charlotte area have it in stock.

I didn't mean Best Buy. I more meant actual AT&T wireless stores & authorized re-sellers (the small wireless-only stores). I can't edit my plan at Best Buy as I have a FAN discount on my account that has to be removed and replaced each time I make a change. Its a pain (especially in cases like this), but I save 23% every billing period, so it's worth it.

So I wouldn't say I was lazy, I just didn't fully explain my situation.

i live in the bronx, ny. my at&t store opened at 10am. i got there at 9:55 and got one no problem. sucks for some of you who didnt get it yet. not sure why those stores wouldnt have any in stock :(
