Why external audio input stopped working (tested with two phones)

I have been recording videos with an external mic (aux coming through mixer) using a TRRS adapter. It has been working like that fir amost 2 years now. Some two weeks ago it stopped working. I have tested all the cables and even bought new ones. I even reset the phone
to factory settings. Nothing helps. Today I bought a new second hand S9 as I thought that the phone is broken. It didn't help either. It seems as if both S9's similarly don't recognize external audio source any more through TRRS adapter. Now, I keep wondering if that is due to a verion update or something.

Any help appreciated.

Have you tried the external mic in a different (non-S9) phone or device? Wonder if it's that equipment that's not working...
