Why get a tablet plan?

Am I thinking about this straight?

A tablet plan is $60/mo for 5Gb.
Using my phone as a Wifi hotspot is $30/mo for unlimited data.

Why would I pay for a tablet plan, when I could get a wireless only tablet and hook it up to my phone? :-$

If you share the tablet with anyone you would need the plan or whoever you share it with would have to have the hotspot too. Or if you just dont want to (or cant) pay the full price of the tablet up front you would enter a contract with Sprint or another carrier to get the tablet cheaper. Only two reasons I can think of.

that is pretty damn steep. i don't see carrier subsidized tablets lasting more then a year. next year i bet we'll be getting them at retailers for 3-$400 wifi only.
