Why Google’s Android updates are overrated for Samsung phones now.

I have an ancient Sprint Galaxy 6S with some Samsung software that I wish was not on it. I have tried removing it but it destabilizes the OS. I will never use it. I would think the "canonical" Android release would be avoiding this stuff. Doesn't it?
Hi, welcome!
Depends what your trying to disable?

It's completely up to the manufacturer to decide which apps can be disabled or uninstalled The ability to do so may depend on how crucial the app is to the system, or how much the manufacturer wants you to use the app.

Samsung's version of Android is very far from "canonical" Android, if what you mean by "canonical" is "stock." Samsung has long been known for adding a lot of their own extra apps and features, although they've scaled back a little in recent years.

I will take the Pixel Experience any day of the week. Samsung UI is too bloated, I hate duplicate apps, and I can't live without the Google Now Feed, which I have loved since my Nexus 5X days. I'm sure there are ways to get a more Pixel like experience with Samsungs excellent hardware, but I don't think it will be worth the effort without having regular, stable updates. Pixel all the way for me

I like Samsung UI much better. Stock Android is much too Vanilla for me. Samsung gets many features before Pixels & has some that other phones never get at all.

Because they are shills.

Look at all the crap that comes on a Samsung phone. What do you think Apple would say if Epic games asked to pre-install Fortnite on their iPhones?

And it's not just Apple. You don't get that crap on pixels, OnePlus phones or motos.

And it's not just Fortnite. Facebook, LinkedIn ads for McAfee... All on a phone you paid through the nose for.
That doesn't make them anymore greedy than anyone else.

It's double dipping. They take a full unsubsidised amount from me for the phone and also take money from Epic, Facebook, McAfee et al.

How does that possibly not mean they're more greedy than companies that don't do that?

It's smart business and I don't care enough to let it bother me. Anything that I don't need like Facebook gets disabled so it's as if it isn't there.

It's definitely smart business, I never said it wasn't lol.

It's also greedy and exploitative though, which was my point. It really shows they don't respect their users. You asked how it makes them more greedy than others, and i explained.

As a more on topic aside, I'd really like to see Samsung bypass Google inevitably integrating it into Android and show a red ring around the camera when it or the mic are active like Apple is doing in iOS 14.

Red ring :) didn't see that yet

Well then I guess we're going differ on that because I don't equate smart business with greed. There are examples of greed that have nothing to do with smart business, but I don't want to take the thread off topic.

Apple just has a dot next to the notch but I think a ring around the hole punch or a border around the notch would be better. Really make it obvious.

Hopefully it's something Samsung will be quick to copy. Apple certainly borrowed enough from us green bubblers this year lol.

Haha I agree, I know 3rd party apps do this but I want it natively.

I agree when it comes to features -- but I'd be more concerned about important security patches. Granted, many security patches are minor, but every now and then there's a more consequential one, so I'd hope those get pushed out by Samsung in an expedited manner.

I receive at least 1 security update a month on my Note 10, if you don't it's more likely your carrier at fault.

Samsung's One UI is really good when it comes to customisation and look and feel . But this is the point where Stock UI leaves behind .Samsung UI is more smooth and convenient to use. Also Samsung devices has more features than regular Android devices that makes Samsung a bit ahead from regular Android.

While there are differences I don't find it all that different in day to day usage to the point where it influences me to prefer one over the other.
