Why has my battery suddenly started draining fast?

Re: nexus 6p Battery Suddenly Draining

Nexus 6p works fine then all of a sudden when I think i have 20/30% left it shuts down... See battery graph, nothing in the apps looks odd.. Any suggestions??

Aging battery. You know all those stories about Apple throttling phones on older devices like the 6 and 6s? It’s to prevent just this from happening. When a battery gets old, it can lose the ability to supply enough voltage at low charge levels when the phone needs more battery, causing the phone to suddenly shut down (unless you slow the phone down like Apple did.) A battery in a device as old as the 6p; that sounds like it could be the issue?

My phone suddenly shuts down, the problem is that it says high temperature warning, shutting down for your safety, and my phone is not hot, it’s cold, I put it in a cold place, it works, and at 18%, shuts down, it was dead

My Motto 5 started shutting down when I unplugged it. I had two cords and two plugs but could not localize it to either. Then, I was driving with the phone plugged in and I noticed it was losing charge by the second. I plugged it in the house and it was doing the same thing. I shut it off and it charged fine. When not charging, I think it was OK. I noticed the internal memory was very low – maybe 2%. I moved various things to the SD card and eliminated several apps that I do not use. This brought the memory to about 10%. More importantly, the phone was now charging in car and house and not shutting down when unplugged. My friend told me it was one of the apps – malicious. He told me if I had gone to battery and looked to see which app was draining a real lot of charge, I would have caught it. I think he is correct and this is the first thing to do in such a case.
