Why has my BBC iPlayer stopped working since the Lollipop update?

BBC iPlayer not working on Lollipop

Just upgraded my very stable G3 from 4.4.2 to 5.0 this afternoon. Everything seems to work except the BBC iPlayer app which will not live stream anymore (no video or sound but the timebar indicates it is running). Strangely it does does download and then plays. I find it difficult to get out of the app - it takes 3 or 4 taps. The last time it froze the phone and I had to remove the battery, something I have never had to do before. I have done a factory reset - that makes no difference. Anybody else from the UK with iPlayer issues? Any advice greatly appreciated.

P.S. It's a 32Gb D855 and I'm unlocked on Three.

I don't have direct experience with that app, but I do recall prior issues with glitchy performance after previous system updates. It seems like BBC is a little slow to iron out glitches whenever there's a major system update.

Since checked on Google play feedback for the app. Everybody who upgraded has the same problem. It's a very disappointing effort from the BBC. Sky go works a treat so why can't the BBC!

Hi there I have exactly the same issue, I took the time too email the developer and was pleased to get a very positive response, they are aware of the issue and are investigating so its just a question of being patient for an update. Also google are rolling out a further lollipop update in january to address other bugs and issues. im checking my apps everyday and lets hope the issue is sorted soon. personally i think lollipop is fine but LG could do with tweaking the way it behaves with the G3 specifically the battery drain. Im using the 16gb/2gb handset so im guessing my experience will always be less than the 3gb handset.

Jason thanks. I also emailed the developer but it looks like they are off now till 5th January. So as you say we need to be patient.

On another point, battery consumption seems to be a bit worse. It's hard to quantify but it seems to be discharging about 25% faster. I have a Nexus 4 and 10 and they look and perform better that before their updates. If I didn't know, l wouldn't realise my G3 is on Lollipop.

Also suffering from this issue. Noticed a few other apps dont work either like SmashHit!

We shouldn't have to put up with this. Developers have had since June to get these issues sorted.

I have a new Nexus 9 and problem on iPlayer exactly as described above. Sound stutters and mutes, picture freezes and breaks up. iPlayer unusable but Sky and Netflix fine. I would have stuck with iPad had I known.

I had the same problem with the FA Cup Final, my brother had it perfectly on his iPhone 6, which peeved me somewhat !

I've got that same problem still. With my Galaxy Note Edge. Gutted as it's such a great phone other wise. Can't get any thing. Black screen. No sound. But looks like it's playing

Has anyone found a solution to the bbc media player and latest version of lollipop? My samsung s5 has not been able to play media files on the bbc site for months and I'm still waiting for an upgrade that will fix this. Are we all still waiting?

Go into settings and change it from lte to 3g no buffering at all on bbci player afterwards. Reply if you don't yet know how
