Galaxy S5 Power button stopped working

hi guy,
I have this annoying problem that my power button stopped from working..
I downloaded "Piano Keyboard Lite" app and since than I couldn't get my phone to shut by pressing the power button, I had to wait for it to close itself by time.
now the problem is that I tried moving the battery off and back in to see if it'll fix the problem but it just got worst because now I can't boot my phone :(
Now I saw a couple of ways to reset or force restart but they all include the power button so they won't work.
So HOW DO I GET MY PHONE TO START??
thank you very much :)

Re: Galaxy S5 Power button stopped working

Welcome to Android Central! The app installation was probably coincidental--I doubt a piece of software could affect the power button when the device is powered off. It sounds more like a hardware defect with the power button. If the phone is pretty new, bring it back to your wireless store and see if they can replace it. Otherwise, contact Samsung for warranty repair.

Re: Galaxy S5 Power button stopped working

first, thanks a lot for your fast reply :)
and second, there is no way just to get my phone to boot without the power button?
If I plug the phone to my PC it's showing the Battery's charging, but I can't continue to home screen or anything else...
Thanks

No--if the power is completely off, you need to turn it on physically. There's no software to power it on, since there's no power running through the phone.

Re: Galaxy S5 Power button stopped working

but when I plug it into my PC/Charger the screen turns on with the battery status on it, so I can get "running power" in it.
and again thank a lot :)

Re: Galaxy S5 Power button stopped working

That's presumably a different circuit in use. I suppose there could be some hack that could force a power on, but that would probably require rooting.

Re: Galaxy S5 Power button stopped working

May be a long shot. Have you tried holding the power button and volume down for around 10 seconds?

Hi I had the same problem, the power button stopped working, but found the following worked.
Press and hold the volume down button.
While holding the button, plug the Galaxy S5 to a PC using your USB cable.
Continue holding the volume down button until your Smartphone boots to ‘Download Mode’.
Once you’re in the download mode, release the volume down button.
Press and hold the volume up button to cancel download mode and to reboot your phone.
Now your phone should be restarted.

Hope this helped

This happened to me just now the button would not respond at all. I fixed it as i would an old crt tv. I took off the back cover and firmly flicked the plastic directly behind the switch. Go figure the button works like a charm. If it stops working again i will update this, but if flicking it worked for me it might for you.

You need to put your phone into safe mode. If the button works then it is a software issue.

To put your phone into safe mode hold the volume button down during boot up.

my power button also stopped working an i took the battery cover off and flicked it right behind the switch an it worked then i looked at the screen by the switch and seen where the screen looked like where it had seperated just a little and i had to pop it back together it made a snapping sound. i baby my phone. i just wonder if the screen seperating from the case had anything to do with it?

Had this same problem today and after reading this forum I was able to get my phone's power button working again. I read about flicking the phone under the case at the location of the power button. Then I read about the screen separating and pressing it together at the same location. So here's my observation. Today I removed my phone case and it wasn't easy. I may have stressed the screen layers or the internal contacts while trying to pry off the case. It didn't come of easy and it was after that when my phone's power button stopped working.
Long story short, I firmly pressed (squeezed hard) phone's screen and back cover together and that seemed to do it for me.

I can't believe the flickING behind the power button worked!!! My button literally worked one min and not the next! I been so upset for 3 days now, so scared my phone would somehow turn off and I would never get it back on! I started reading all kinds of ways to get it back on without the power button just in case it ever shut off, I'm sure like most of u my phone is my lifeline! Anyways I decided to try the finger flick, and like a dummy, didn't think about holding the battery in place while I did it, needless to say the battery fell out during the flicking and I about died thinking I was screwed! But to my delight, IT WORKED!!!!! ❤ ❤ ❤ My phone not only came back on but the button properly works all over again! So thank you so very much! BTW I had honestly lightly beat the phone a few times and it didn't change a thing! I guess u have to literally take the back off and flick directly behind the button itself! Hahaha, what a simple magnificent fix! 😄😄😄😄
