Why has my htc one m8 camera locked itself

Out of the blue my htc one m8 camera decided to lock itself and I can't find any information anywhere about a lock on the camera so now I can't use my camera at all.

Welcome to Android Central! What do you mean by a lock? Does it ask you for a password or PIN when you try to open the Camera app? Or does nothing happen at all when you try to open it?

I can get into the camera app okay but there is a lock icon on the button that won't allow me to take a photo or do anything else. This has only just appeared as I haven't had any issues with the camera in the past and didn't even know that you could put a lock on it. I'm not sure how it's happened.:-\

Welcome to the forums. If you were to download Google Camera, does it do the same thing?

Also, are you certain it's the stock camera you're using? You haven't installed any other cameras, right?

No it's the camera that was on the phone from new

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded Google camera (didn't even know there were cameras you could download) and it works fine but the quality isn't anywhere near the htc camera
