Welcome to Android Central! I moved this to the Site Feedback forum, since you obviously have lots of feedback.

What you're experiencing is adware, not malware (although I'm sure many people equate the two) -- adware doesn't show up on antivirus scans. Are you using the Android Central app, or the forum website? If you're using the app, uninstall it and try the forum website.

Ads have been a growing issue on the blog and the app. The site admins actually don't have total control over the ads that appear on the ad network all the time. It's important for them to know about extremely invasive or inappropriate ads that do show up, so when you do see them, take a screenshot and send it to the site admins: https://forums.androidcentral.com/sendmessage.php

BTW, if you installed the app from the Play Store, it clearly states that it "Contains Ads," so you did in fact give the app permission to serve you ads.:-\

I agree, this is likely just adware, and a result of some app that's been installed on the device. In fact - Google probably isn't even serving the ads directly!

Or could be referring to something else entirely for all we know. It's also unlikely the ombudsmen is going to do anything, or likely is unable to do anything even if they wanted.

In either case, maybe all Kathys within the Android Central universe will be sacked just in case.
