Why hasn't Google slashed the price of the Pixel 2 XL?

I have to wonder if some of it has to do with concerns over the supply chain. Google had difficulty keeping up last year, if Google drops the price there may be difficulty filling the orders.

It's a bit of a catch-22 - people want the device but think the price is maybe a BIT too steep for them but the demand is manageable, if the price drops the demand goes up and Google may not be able to keep up with shipments within the amount of time people expect.

It's like cars - some sell themselves and every unit produced sells even without incentives, others have piles of incentives to entice the customer to buy that brand over the brand that doesn't offer incentives. If the brand that doesn't offer incentives starts offering them, they suddenly start growing faster than they can keep up with and quality goes down.

I think it comes down to supply and demand and getting the most profit they can per unit.

I'm waiting for another $200 promo through Google Play Store. I think the Pixel 2 XL is a great phone but at this point not worth $35 a month and I have to stick with AT&T because of meaty corporate discounts. My 6P died a couple months ago and I have been using my wife's oldish iPhone 7 Plus. Not a bad phone, or a bad camera either but pages apps or folders is getting a little long in the tooth.

I'm sure that kind of a discount will occur soon enough! :)

I find it strange that Google is still selling the Pixel 2 XL at $949 full price even after Samsung released the new Galaxy S9/S9+... who in their right mind will buy the Pixel when the S9 is available for only $720 and S9+ for $840?
Folks like me who only buy Google phones? Is this a trick question? I wouldn't use another phone even if it was free...

You can tell me how great Samsung phones or iphones are until you are blue in the face. I am still never going to buy one.

@chex, agree with your post as Samsung for sure doesn't do it for me. Sammy's not for everyone.

Since Google introduced their own phones they're the only ones I've wanted to own.

The original Pixel turned me off mostly because of the bezels... Just my hangup. I did like a couple of the Nexus products. I tried a 6P for two weeks but thought it was too big....lol

I don't see the bezel'tastic 2XL as a £800 device.

Doesn't feel like one. Inside or out.

For me "fashionable Looks" are less important than having unadulterated, bloat-free Android. I need a pure Android operating system that's kept up-to-date. I need security updates as soon as they're available.

I'm not sure the Pixel is "bloat free". But the update situation is very true.

For sure! It's great to have an array of awesome choices at our disposal. Do you remember, years ago, when choosing a phone "seemed" to be much simpler? 🤣
I remember when it came down to which one was smallest.
Oh how times have changed.
