Why hasn't my phone been updated since November of 2019?

November 1st is the last update for this phone. Wtf, I bought this phone for the updates -so where the hell are they? Everything is centered around the Pixel

re:

Welcome to Android Central! That phone was released in August 2017, so it's more than 2.5 years old. Most non-Pixel phones will only get updates for 2 years at the most.

That's pretty good! It'd be helpful for the OP to let us know the exact model number of their phone.

I got the January 2020 security update yesterday on my Android One version.

I would like to think my post had something to do with the update, lol.....one can wish -- haha. Yes, my Motorola X4 Android One version was updated to January 2020. In addition, my Pixel 3XL was also updated as of the same date! 🤭✌️ unfortunately my Nexus 6p never updates but we know why 👌

All three phones. are still on the Google Fi Network, formerly known as Project fi and I've been with them for the last 4 years.

Before you buy a phone. Find out when the phone was made for that specific model. Because anything that sounds good is already been outdated and they will update and ruin the phone within a month to 3 months sometimes if you're real lucky 6 months now to force you to buy a new phone again they don't care that you just bought it or not. So basically they're selling a bad product knowingly. it's so corrupt that nobody gives a damn about it unless you do a class action suit. Even class action suits only the attorneys and the government get the money you'll get zero.

Not a myth....

Corrupt

Can't sue because you need tech to proove it. Techs don't want to lose jobs. Vicious circle.

These issues been known for at least 20 years

I see that you're new here, so first off welcome to the forums.

As for your claims, I think you are more a victim of a botched update than any sort of conspiracy theory. Manufacturers simply are not in the business of making phones obsolete within months of release. To do so would actually drive them out of visitors because no one wants to buy a phone that'll be useless in 6 months. Even the hardcore enthusiasts that do upgrade every 6 months wouldn't buy one because they re-sell those to recoup much of their original purchase price.

Don't get me wrong, I completely sympathize with you. Botched updates are not rare, and I've been hit with them too (twice it even factory reset the phone and reformatted the SD card), but these are the exception and not the rule. My last phone went 3+ years before I gave it up due to physical damage issues, and we have a thread here dedicated to those that have phones over 2 years old.

Not a myth....

Just you pushing conspiracy theories with absolutely no evidence or credibility, a conspiracy that holds no ground what so ever.

Manufacturers do not push updates to kill devices and force you to buy new phones. If that were true my 2013 Samsung Note 3, 2014 Note 4, 2015 Note 5, 2016 S7, would all be dead by now. Guess what? All the phones still work, I'm actually surprised my Note 3 has yet to die I still use it regularly and it's almost 7 years old!

thank you for your response because in five years I've never gotten one response on any of these sites. I went to stores who were not willing even within 24 hours. I knew there was something wrong with the phone. They would not do what they needed to do to fix the problem. However I did have one woman from phone company who attempted but told me the phone was no good. I was left up in the air. That woman was on the phone for the phone company. Tried. Made to stop helping me. In the end I was told to deal with it with the phone. Stores would not do anything and said you need to call. Vicious circle. This I went through with every phone since 2005 they are the only phones I've ever had in my life that were cell phones. each and every one, as soon as I got them. after being told they were up-to-date phones. Because I asked. That you can't get newer than that. this particular phone does more for the ads than it does for anything that I possibly could want to do on this phone. I'm paying for an app service to get free ads. Taboot I'm not even getting reception anymore most of the time. Leaving me stuck out in the cold. I also asked if this phone particularly went everywhere. Told him my location and to check out the maps. they said that there was no need to do that anymore and that it covers everywhere. I explained I lived in the mountains. They said that should be no problem. I believe them after all for the last 3 years of living at this address all my phones I got reception. Yesterday I was told while you live in the mountains and it doesn't reach out there. I've tried each phone company and there's always some kind of reason why my phone never works right. None of them none of them ever fix any of the problems. as usual like in the past I noticed people say that they've already tried everything. And they tell you exactly what they've done already to fix the problem themselves. Then I see text he'll them will you must do this to fix the problem. just repeating the same thing that the person just said they've already done a billion times and didn't work. Right at this moment I don't have time to actually put everything that's wrong down. because I need to go deal with some other things but I will be back on this thank you for your response

I would suggest when you come back that you start a new thread so you get the right attention on it. For now, a couple of things to note before you do. We are just a community of enthusiasts, and are not affiliated with Google, manufacturers, or carriers. In that respect, our advice is limited to personal experiences. The other is I wouldn't go to a store for tech support. Store personnel are mainly there to sell phones and don't get any sort of tech support training. So when they say you should call the tech support line, that is really the best you can get from them.

I responded in your other thread, but if bad updates really bother you, then I suggest you stick with Pixel phones, since there's much less chance of glitchy updates (since they don't need to be tweaked by the manufacturer to work with all of the additional features/bloat/junk those manufacturers have on their devices. It's usually that tweaking that causes problems. Android system updates are tailored for Pixel phones because Pixel phones are straight from the source.

I understand why you feel so frustrated, and it probably makes you feel better to think that these companies are vile monolithic beasts that just try to ruin everything. But as I alluded to in your other thread, these companies aren't coordinated nor smart enough to have such a grand plan. Incompetence is much more common than pure evil.
