Why have my photos have vanished but videos remain?

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S5.

I've been back from holiday for a few days and thought I'd save all the photos I took to my laptop for safe keeping. My photo were all saved to my SD Card but I've just noticed all my pictures are gone! Oddly enough all the videos I took remain. They are not appearing on my phone nor when I connect my phone to my laptop and look in the files.

Any ideas on what could have happened? I'm confused as to why they've vanished and why the videos remain. I really want them back.

The only things I've done recently on my phone were save some apps to my SD card. None of them apps were camera related though.

Welcome to Android Central! Unmount the card (in Settings>Storage), remove it, and insert it directly into the computer's SD reader. Can you find the photos files that way?

Thanks for your input. Luckily my dropbox saved all my photos so I have access to them on my laptop, however I'd still like to be able to see the photos on my phone - any idea on how I can get them back?
