Why I think no removable batter/MicroSD is a good thing.

I prefer the feel of phones without a removable battery such as the IPhone or Moto X. However, I need my Moto X to last 2 years and I end up having to charge it several times a day. I doubt the battery will last a full 2 years before a significant degrade in life. If manufacturers are going to make the battery non-removable then they should offer one free battery replacement during the first 2 years of the phone. I don't want to have to spend $75-100 at a repair shop to fix my Moto X which I know I will.

I hardly ever use my phone to make or receive phone calls. Music, movies, texts, Facebook, emails, twitter, pictures is what I use it most for. Therefore the need for more and expandible storage.

After reading all 300+ posts in this thread, I know very little about why Samsung made the decision to drop an SD card from the S6; nor did I really expect to find that data outside of a Samsung design center. But I sure have learned a lot about how different individuals sure their phones and how passionate they are about the issue. Most of you have no chance of understanding how I can survive using my phone primary for telephone calls [cell phones still do that], text, simple research, limited pictures, very limited music, no movies or video, no facebook, no tweeter. I know - right back with the caveman. It is not that I don't do those things it is just I have other devices I prefer to use. For example my music is on an old classic ipod which is interfaced into the car audio system.
I find it next to impossible to picture the lifestyle of many of you. You own and travel with more movies, music and pictures than I would ever consider. I understand why you have strong feelings about storage.

I have not need for it so it is not my issue; but many of you do so it is a big issue with you. Unfortunately my SWAG is there are more people near my end of the market. I expect the phone will sell well. A large number of the Android purchasers will seek out other alternatives which match their technical and storage needs. But you only have to stand in a Best Buy or a carrier store listening to individuals taking about the phones they are considering to realize it is not only the Apple world where design is a driving force for huge numbers of purchasers. "little cute phones" sell in large numbers.

Thanks to all of you who shared how you use your phone and the volume of data you use. It has been educational for me.

I am not against sd cards, but for some premium devices it may be time to move on.

It's good that you aren't against SD cards. They can be useful, whether you use them in a smartphone or another device that accepts them, like a Google Chromebook.

There's plenty of room in the market for a Samsung Galaxy S6 with a removable battery and an SD card to sit alongside a Galaxy S6 without them.

They know when their users use sd card and removable battery? how? are devices transmitting data secretly to the vendor or something?

TBH, i don't think they have that kind of concrete data as to what their users "prefer", if they do, they would make whatever "best configuration" years ago.

HTC also didn't look back on the battery.

Google hasn't put SD on a Nexus in ages. They also haven't had a removable battery in a long time either.

And like I've said numerous times recently: Samsung makes SD cards. Their flagship phone should probably have a SD card slot to sell more memory cards. Yet Samsung didn't include it in the S6.

That alone speaks volumes on how important SD card slots are in today's market.

I'm almost 18 months into my first gen Moto X. Battery still feels fine.

And as a last point. Removable expandable storage is a must for me. I work in IT and I remember buying a 212mb hard disk thinking that I would never fill that up.... That was quite a few decades ago.

I don't disagree with people saying that they don't need a SD card in their phone. Just don't tell me that I don't need one. You can buy your S6 - I'll be getting a Note4 in June when the contract on my S5 runs out.

The S6 will do well. It's not for me. My phone is one access point for my movies and music whilst I'm on the move. I watch and listen on my home cinema set up, my laptops, my pc's and my tablets depending on where I am and what I am doing.

My phone allows me to consume my media in a certain way. My ideal solution would be for me to store everything only on my NAS's and have constant and guaranteed fast access to them wherever I am on whatever device I have but that is not possible yet. So I take copies with me.

SanDisk have recently announced a 200gb SD card so I'll be investing in a few of those when the price drops.

Enjoy your S6. I'll be having a blast with my Note4.

It says that they took a hit in reviews for not having a feature that the S4 had. If the S6 is a big success, I think you can watch removable batteries and SD card slots disappear in the next 2 years or so. All the manufacturers copy each other and Samsung is by far the biggest in Android. If they don't lose marketshare because of this, the other manufacturers will probably follow along because that'll show that the two most profitable manufacturers (Apple and Samsung) got by just fine without having to do the work to put an SD card into the device. Also, they'll make way more from people having to pay an arm and a leg for extra storage. These companies don't care about us, they care about their bottom line.
I have an SD card in every one of my devices and I change my battery out at least once a day, so I use these features a lot. I just think the market is about to head in a direction where they no longer exist. Everyone is saying, they could make an S6 with removables too to sell alongside the regular S6, but why would they do that? Clearly carriers have a lot of faith in this new phone, and if it kills the competition this year, next year, none of the flagships may have an SD card slot. Then, it'll be an equal playing field again and we'll still have lost out. As much as I love removables, I'm just going to find a way to adapt because HTC didn't impress me at all, and the G4 probably won't have even close to the amount of features that the S6 does.

That's because they can sell you, for example, a 64gb card for $25 or they can sell you on the 65gb s6 for $100 extra. The SD card is less profitable.

Probably not.

The design changes were likely a response to criticism to the previous generations. Samsung sold a boat load of Galaxy S devices and probably outsold everyone else's flagships every time.

Yet recently they were painted as stale or in trouble with a decline in sales.

It was just time to make a revolutionary change to the line (one they tested with the Alpha series, Note 4, and Note 4 Edge) instead of an evolutionary one (S3 to S4 to S5). "Features" got dropped along the way and it's OK.

Samsung probably has data that shows how many previous customers bought and used SD cards in their phones and how many previous customers bought their extra batteries. And that probably showed it was OK to not include those features on the S6 rather than sacrifice on their new design.

Don't like it? Don't buy it. There are other options.

I have given up on Slave. He is fine with the SD card being gone because for him it is a "want not a need". As long as he has what he considers needs he will apparently argue until the end of time that the rest of us are wrong for saying it is a need. SD cards are not needed...unless you feel they are. Slave has stated over and over that we are wrong, SD cards are just wants and we should be fine if they remove them. I assume that as long as something that Slave considers a need is not removed from a device, we will continue to be wrong.

All the people who disagree with Slave have said is that they do not like the idea of removing the SD card and removable battery options from the phone. To some of us these features are needs. I have never had the issues with Samsung phones that Slave has. If I was him/her and had all the same issues, I would never consider getting a Samsung phone again. If the Note series does away with expandable memory and replaceable batteries, I will have to make a decision when I upgrade on what to do at that point.

I don't know what to tell you. It needs a screen, OS and battery. It does not need an extra battery and SD card. Those are wants.

You are not wrong for wanting them. I never said that wanting them is wrong. I never said that you don't need an SD card. You could have a job that requires you to have 300GB of videos at all times.

I am saying the phone does not need it. If you need a device that has an SD card slot, there are a few options.

As for my issues, my issues were plenty of people's issues, as I got the fix from this very set of forums. I dunno what to say.

I can now conscider Samsuck again. I enjoy my UHDTV, my optical drives, my LED TV, and my soundbar. They seem to have done away with nearly half of the bloat. That by itself will remove a ton of the issue; the storage and the lag.

See, TouchCrap had so much bloat that your 16gb drive was closer to 7. Now that they have removed a ton of it, it would have been closer to 16. These are base 32gb, just like my Moto X, N5, N6 and N7. Also, with so much bloat gone, and that wonderful SOC it's rocking, it won't be nearly as laggy. With out an SD card, my apps and media will be on that ultra fast storage they use. It WILL be a superior experience.

See how that works, a company pushes a garbage, they lose customers, they fix it, people come back. TouchCrap is garbage. They removed a ton of the bloat. They removed the slow, often corrupted micro SD, and used super speedy memory, and the phone speeds way up. They have a efficient screen, uses 20% less power, plus energy efficient ram, plus cooler parts, the battery lasts much longer, no longer need an extra one. I can use wireless charging if I like.

All of this means, as per the title of this thread, removing them is a GOOD thing. It allowed the phone ot be what it is supposed to be.

P.S. The title of the thread agrees with my point of view, therefore, I am not being argumentative, since I agree with it. You are the ones here complaining. If you didn't agree with the title, why are you posting? I know, to argue, which I am being accused of, when I am agreeing with the threads original content. You don't agree with it, then go make a different thread about it, or don't, so what.

Supposing the cost for a 128gb sealed phone was in line with past flagship releases, and not 100 - 200 more - what some people seem to be saying is 64gb or 128gb is nowhere near enough for them to manage. .

That would be my position, yes, because otherwise my phone would be filled with media and have no space left to have an OS or apps.

But to date, if you're buying a 128gb phone, that's a pricey upgrade. And UNLIKE Sd cards, you throw that space you bought away every time you change phones. Maybe one day that won't be the case and we will be offered vast amounts of space for an extra $5. But that day is not today....Which is to say, if they came out with 256gb phones, I wouldn't buy them unless I had to: they'd be too expensive whereas having an SD card to call my own permanently and keep flipping as I change phones would be a far more cost-effective (and time-saving) solution.

While i do use my phone for music, it isnt my primary music player (I also use an iPod). I use Facebook, Twitter, browse the internet, email, read news, take photos, watch some youtube videos...thats about it. Personally i could never watch a movie on a 5" screen, thats why I've got chromecast and stream from media apps. Point being is even with all the stuff I do on my phone, i've never had a problem with maxing 32GB of storage...i could probably get by on 16GB nowadays with OneDrive/Dropbox for storage of photos.

I possibly have it worse. They may start specialist treatment clinics for people like me, where I will eventually be forced to attend, or locked up. Fresh air will become a prized commodity.

I charge in my truck on the way. if it gets low at work (if it is slow, no one is having heart attacks, so I have no nursing to do), I will play the crap out of Candy Crush and troll Facebook. That drains my battery, I have to charge it.

Other than that, real life gets in the way of constant media consumption on my phone.
